Teaching Interventions - 1347 Words

School-Wide Practices to Promote Learning NASP Standards are general practices and strategies that the school uses in order to maintain effective and supporting learning environments for students. At my internship, a team was developed in order to provide staff with weekly tips about different types of interventions. The team developed a name â€Å"The Tipster Tuesday Committee† which entailed two school psychologist, the intern, school counselor, special education reading/writing teacher, math teacher, social studies teacher, and an assistant principal. The committee worked together to develop different intervention strategies for teachers to utilize in the classroom. When a student expresses concerning behavior, it is our responsibility to ensure that any harmful behavior to self or others is targeted and/or prevented. If a student expresses suicidal tendencies, we take proper measures by conducting a risk assessment and notifying proper officials. Preventing behaviors such as bullying is also very important and should be a focus it’s important to spread awareness and the effects that bullying has on everyone. I have limited experience in conducting threat assessments and in order to be prepared for this career, my goal is to become familiar with the school’s threat assessment policy before I begin working as a school psychologist. As a school psychologist in a high school placement, I will be responsible for preventive practices in order to ensure student safety by having tools available such as risk/threat assessments. My goal is to ensure safety among students and staff members by being an active participant in crisis prevention.
